Invisible Oranges publishes review of the MERISTEM EP

Posted on May 23rd, 2007 by admin

One of my favorite music writers–Cosmo Lee of Stylus, Metal Injection and the outstanding MP3 blog Invisible Oranges–has posted a very nice review of the MERISTEM EP, along with a free mp3 of the title track.

Find out why Cosmo Lee says MERISTEM is “one of 2007’s better half-hours”–which, coming from him, is a true and humbling honor. Check it out here.

God Is Myth Records announces June 2007 release

Posted on May 22nd, 2007 by admin

God Is Myth Records has announced that GODHEADSCOPE’s debut CD, A CITY OUT OF SIGHT, will be released in June 2007. Here’s what the label has to say about the CD:

Every once in awhile we get a promo in the mail from a band/artist that is so completely out of left field and stunning that we make plans right away to put out an album by said band/artist. In this case we were absolutely pleased as hell to learn that longtime DEAD RAVEN CHOIR contributor Matt Rosin (working here as M.KOLOPHONIUM) has his own “ambient drone song” project called GODHEADSCOPE. This musical endeavour presents M.KOLOPHONIUM’s attempt to bring Ambient, Noise and Chamber Music together in an all new relationship and the results come together with beautiful and original effect. Imagine if ARVO PART were to arrange and conduct a performance by CORRUPTED and you will only begin to scratch the surface of these deep and mysterious sonorities. For fans of vidnaObmana, LYCIA, BORIS, JESU, ROBERT RICH, DEAD RAVEN CHOIR and TOBY DRIVER.

New recordings in process

Posted on May 21st, 2007 by admin

Writing and recording has begun on new GODHEADSCOPE material. The tracks are planned for a split-LP, the details of which will be announced at a later date. Expect 20-25 minutes worth of music. The sound thus far is much more sparse than A CITY OUT OF SIGHT, and very hypnotic and piano-centric. Think Steve Reich meets Arvo Pärt meets Lycia. More soon.

The dignity of lost causes

Posted on May 3rd, 2007 by admin

Several people have asked about the meaning behind the title of the forthcoming GODHEADSCOPE CD, A CITY OUT OF SIGHT.

The line comes from the work of American philosopher Josiah Royce. In his 1908 book The Philosophy of Loyalty, Royce writes:

If we believe in the lost cause, we become directly aware that we are indeed seeking a city out of sight . . . every cause worthy, as we said, of lifelong service, and capable of unifying our life plans, shows sooner or later that it is a cause which we cannot successfully express in any set of human experiences of transient joys and of crumbling successes.

The music and lyrics of A CITY OUT OF SIGHT are inspired by, and devoted to, the dignity of lost causes.
